Training that picks up where rehab leaves off

One-on-one, activity-based recovery training with a certified neuro-fitness specialist. Exercise is the only tool we use, and we use it hard.

Our approach

Our program is built on developmental movement, the idea that you crawl before you walk. We train the body in functional movement patterns through rolling, sitting, standing, crawling and walking. That work gives nerves, muscles, bones and joints the stimulation they need to reach the highest function possible.

Your specialist builds a program around your goals, measures your progress on functional scales, and changes the program as you change. Most members train two or three times a week, for one to three hours a session. Your assessment sets the exact schedule.

A member lies on a leg-press machine while a trainer works with his legs and another trainer watches.
  • A smiling member in a wheelchair pulls resistance bands in front of the logo wall.
  • A young woman in a pink wheelchair pedals an arm-and-leg cycle.
  • A member in a wheelchair does a cable row.
  • A trainer helps a member hold a bridge on the mats.

Questions people ask

Is this physical therapy?

No. Physical therapy is delivered by licensed physical therapists, is usually covered by insurance, and typically runs 45 minutes to an hour, two or three times a week. Our program is adaptive exercise led by staff with degrees in kinesiology, exercise science, exercise physiology and athletic medicine. It isn't covered by insurance, and sessions usually run one to three hours. We don't diagnose or treat medical conditions. If you need physical therapy, Neuro Performance Physical Therapy works in our building.

What is a neuro-fitness specialist?

Our specialists hold degrees in kinesiology, exercise science or exercise physiology, plus national fitness certifications. They know anatomy, physiology and biomechanics well beyond a typical personal trainer, and they build programs for people with neurological, musculoskeletal and cardiovascular conditions.

Does insurance pay for it?

Insurance does not cover our training. If you want insurance-covered care, Neuro Performance Physical Therapy works in our building and is in-network with most major plans. Ask us about veteran pricing and other memberships.

How soon after my injury can I start?

As soon as you've been discharged from your physician's or physical therapist's care and your doctor clears you to exercise.

What do I need before my first session?

Your doctor's OK to exercise and our application. We'll tell you exactly what else we need for your situation before your first visit.

What happens in the first session?

An assessment. We take functional measurements to set a baseline, agree on goals with you, and use those numbers to track your progress over time.

How long is the program?

There's no set end date. Recovery is a lifelong process and everyone moves at a different pace. Some members have trained with us for years, others for a few months.

I don't live in San Antonio. Can I still train with you?

One-on-one training works best for people who can come in regularly. Some members relocate to San Antonio for a stretch of intensive training. Call us and we'll talk through what would work for you.
